One of William achievements was winning the battle of Hastings which where his troops killed Harold II. Also William introduced the Norman feudal system. This allowed William to have Soldiers all over England. William told his officials to make a survey of the new kingdom. Also in 1087 during a battle against Philip I of France William burnt down the town of Mantes (now Mantes-la-Jolie). William’s horse fell and fatally injured him. He died in Rouen on September the 7th. William was buried in
the St Stephen abbey, one which he and his wife, Matilda of Flanders founded at the same time as their marriage. William II, third born of William and Matilda succeeded to the throne in 1087.
